“Ima Ama 'Wai Nwed” is a choral piece for SATB chorus, originally composed for voices and now arranged by Isong Akpan for mixed voices and African percussion instruments. This native Efik air from Cross River State, Nigeria, was traditionally sung in local churches and adapted in 2021 to address the lack of native choral music in southern Nigeria. Performed first by The Royal Fatherland Music Ensemble, the piece can be presented with or without percussion accompaniment, and it can include bodily movements to enhance the performance. Suitable for any season, it offers a rich addition to choral repertoires in schools, colleges, and churches.
